30' Nomad
30' Shelter Island Nomad
CH Marine announces the latest innovative addition to its fleet: the Shelter Island Nomad. This yacht is designed to provide a quick, stable platform for fishing, scuba diving, and family outings. The Nomad features a shoal draft propulsion system and a unique opening transom. Nicknamed the “Tailgate,” a large portion of the transom hinges down to become a swim platform providing easy on and off access for either an inflatable, mopeds, a wheelchair or divers. At anchor in your favorite harbor, you’ll be watching sunsets at the water’s edge with the tailgate down.
Twin inboard diesels drive inboard propellers that are tucked up in tunnels. Since the props are recessed inside the hull tunnels there is added protection against striking submerged objects. The draft is a mere 20˝. Power is a pair of Yanmar 6LPA diesels rated at 315 HP each that yield a cruising speed of 34 mph with a top speed of nearly 40 mph.
The dash is designed to accommodate an integrated color GPS/radar/chartplotter and fishfinder. Visibility from the helm is excellent when sitting in the ultra comfortable Stidd helm seat. The engine box cushions have a tilting backrest feature that locks the cushion backrest in an inclined position for lounging. Up at the bow the recessed foredeck adds safety when going forward and provides a stable platform for handling lines, anchoring or fly casting for albacore.
Down below there’s an enclosed head with handheld shower, a V berth, and suitably sized storage lockers. There’s even a galley complete with refrigeration, sink with hot and cold pressurized water and an available countertop stove. The quality of construction and equipment specified for the Nomad is to CH Marine’s exacting standards. In the tradition of all CH Marine yachts, the ride is remarkably smooth and quiet.
